Ferry Terminal
Designed to handle mainland and international traffic, Lerwick’s modern ferry terminal at Holmsgarth provides excellent facilities for passengers.
Lerwick's modern ferry terminal has made an important contribution to the doubling of annual passenger numbers to around 140,000.
A mile from the town centre, the terminal is used by NorthLink Ferries’ roll-on/roll-off vessels, "Hjaltland" and "Hrossey" which provide overnight services to-and-from Aberdeen on the Scottish mainland and also call at Kirkwall, Orkney. NorthLink’s offices are located within the terminal, with ticket sales and enquiries.
The ships are linked to the terminal building by an elevated overhead walkway for the comfort and safety of passengers. The terminal also has facilities for the disabled, tourist information and left luggage. There is also a bus service and some free parking at the terminal. Taxis are available.
The ferry terminal is capable of handling international ferry traffic, with approved UK Border agency facilities. The port is fully compliant with International Security requirements. Infrastructure for ferries includes a 20 metre wide linkspan bridge.
NorthLink also operates freight and livestock roll-on/roll-off vessels which also use the Holmsgarth Terminal complex.
