Passengers onboard the cruise ship Boudicca received a rousing Shetland welcome as she arrived at Lerwick at midday on Sunday 2 August 2009.

Her visit marked the 1000th cruise ship visit at the Shetland port since the first was noted in official records which started in 1924.

Celebrations laid on by Lerwick Port Authority included a lunch for local guests and others from elsewhere in the UK. The quayside welcome for Boudicca’s passengers included Lerwick’s Viking Jarl squad and Lerwick Brass Band.

Nigel Lingard, Marketing Director of vessel owners, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, and her Master, Captain Bjarte Roksund, were each presented with hand-crafted pewter Viking galleys to mark the ship’s historic visit before she sailed for Bergen, in Norway.
