Lerwick Port Authority's New Deputy Harbour Master Onboard

Captain Alexander Simpson (27) has taken up his appointment as Deputy Harbourmaster at Lerwick Port Authority.

Originally from Whalsay, Shetland, he began his seagoing career with Clyde Marine and sponsoring company, GreatWhite Fleet, in 1999. After qualifying as deck officer, he quickly rose through the ranks and was also the first person in Scotland to gain Merchant Vessels Operations VQ level 4 qualification.

In 2008, he qualified as a Master Mariner and became a Captain on container vessels trading worldwide, working with DSM who manage vessels for Danish firms, NYK Lauritsen Cool and Maersk.

Captain Simpson succeeds Captain Calum Grains who was previously promoted the Authority’s Harbourmaster.
