Recovery complete

Following the grounding and subsequent sinking of MFV Prospect in Lerwick Harbour on 5 August 2013, the recovery operation of the vessel is now complete.

The vessel was successfully refloated and brought to a quay on 22 August and fuel oil has mainly been removed.

The Prospect is now on the Malakoff slipway at Lerwick for repair to allow the vessel to be towed away.

Several companies have been involved with the recovery of the Prospect and huge thanks are due to all involved in the successful outcome.

In particular Ocean Kinetics Limited whose divers and salvage team worked tirelessly on the casualty. They were ably assisted by BK Marine and Peterson UK Limited. Sunderland Marine, insurer of Prospect and their local marine surveyor have been instrumental in the operation.

Lerwick Port Authority’s own staff are also to be thanked for all their hard work throughout the incident. Their excellent response and involvement has prevented any significant pollution occurring.
