At the start of Lerwick's busiest weekend of the year, competitors in two major yacht races have started to arrive at Lerwick.

On Wednesday morning Paradox was the first arrival in the four-yearly Round Britain & Ireland yacht race. The trimaran was six hours ahead of its nearest competitor after a fast leg from Barra. 53 yachts remain in this exciting race and each will have a 48-hour stopover in Lerwick.

37 yachts from Bergen are underway to Lerwick on the annual Bergen-Shetland Race with the first arrival due later today. Excellent tracking systems on the respective Race website allows progress to be monitored and some very competitive sailing apparent.

The weekend celebrations include a reception on Victoria Pier on Friday evening where prizes will be awarded for the race from Bergen to Lerwick. The first of those yachts across the finishing line will receive the Lerwick Port Authority prize.
