Lerwick Port Authority is urging passengers travelling on NorthLink and Smyril Line ferries to consider making alternative transfer arrangements to and from the Lerwick Ferry Terminal at Holmsgarth.

Approximately 60 long-term car parking spaces are available and these are extremely busy now in the high season, particularly at weekends. Travellers are advised that there is no guarantee of a long-term parking space when they drive to the Terminal.

Earlier in the season a campaign to advise travellers of the restriction met with some success but further “warning” advertisements are now being used to remind drivers that they may not find a space. Problems have been experienced with cars being abandoned in some areas and quaysides are now cordoned off.

Allan Wishart, Chief Executive of Lerwick Port Authority said: “The Authority regrets that it is not possible to provide more long-term parking spaces at Holmsgarth. Where possible, passengers are requested to avoid having to leave their vehicle at the Lerwick terminal while they are away.”
