Port Controller John McMeechan has been congratulated by Board Members for achieving 25 years’ service with Lerwick Port Authority.

John’s years of dedication and experience as one of the team of Port Controllers that work shifts to cover the 24-hour port operation is hugely appreciated by all his colleagues. A well-known voice to all the vessels visiting Lerwick Harbour, John has also contributed to developing record keeping systems of vessels using the port. This complements his keen interest in historical research of vessels that have called at Lerwick in past years. In 2006, John was honoured with a bravery award from the Royal Humane Society for saving a fisherman from being crushed from falling between his vessel and the pier at Alexandra Wharf.
