With the busiest weekend of the yachting season approaching at Lerwick, additional berthing capacity has been provided with another pontoon.
A 50metre long pontoon has kindly been made available by Grieg Seafood Hjaltland from their Girlsta operation for this season.
Lerwick Port Authority’s vessel Kebister collected the pontoon from Girlsta and Ocean Kinetics were engaged to moor it at Albert Wharf. The Authority’s staff are making the pontoon ready with services and it will be available for use by yachts from today (19 June).
The pontoon is placed to extend out from Albert Wharf, providing berthing on both sides of it and sheltering Albert Dock where the other seasonal yacht pontoons are located.
The 28th annual Bergen-Shetland yacht race will bring over 40 yachts to Lerwick from 26 – 29 June. The additional capacity for yachts in the Albert Dock location will benefit the local Race Committee and liaison team that look after the race participants when they are in Lerwick.
