Arven Offshore Wind Farm, is the latest sponsor for Sail Training Shetland’s 2024 programme.

The contribution will secure the funding needed to deliver ship placements for the trainees.

Arven is a 2.3GW floating offshore wind development off the east coast of Shetland. The project’s two sites, with capacity to power up to two million homes, are being developed by 50:50 joint venture, Mainstream Renewable Power and Ocean Winds.

Lerwick Port Authority, a founding member of Sail Training Shetland, and annual sponsor, has provided sailing experiences to over 450 young people since 2009.

Ewan Walker, Project Director for Arven, said: “Arven aspires to be a flagship project for floating wind technology, and one of our goals is to spark enthusiasm among young people for wind energy and motivate them to consider future careers in the sector. We also aim to bring long-term job opportunities to the Shetland community.

“Initiatives such as Sail Training Shetland play a crucial role in developing the skills and qualities that young people will need for their future careers, so this partnership is an excellent fit.”

Sail Training Shetland has welcomed the sponsorship, the impact of which will include assisting in recruiting trainees to participate in placements.
