The latest phase in Lerwick Harbour’s support for the development of SSE Renewables’ onshore Viking windfarm is underway with shipments of turbine towers and 57-metre-long blades delivered being delivered through the port.

There will be a total of 22 shipments with turbine components over the coming months.

The equipment is temporarily stored at Greenhead Base before being transported to the site to prepare for construction.

Lerwick Port Authority, Captain Calum Grains, said: “The unusual sight of all these components passing through the port will be a feature of activity this year and points to our future involvement with the growing renewable energy industry offshore.”
