Lerwick Port Authority is trialling a double decker coach for the upcoming cruise season, boosting capacity and efficiency for its complimentary shuttle service between Mair’s Pier, Holmsgarth, and the town centre.
The Authority investing in the larger vehicle allows more passengers per journey, easing congestion at the port and reducing vehicle movements along the Esplanade. This supports the local community by minimising pressure on transport services during busy periods.
The move reflects a planned approach to sustainable cruise tourism, improving visitor experience while protecting local infrastructure.
Seasonal hire of two executive coaches by the Authority, will further support cruise excursions, benefiting local transport providers.
Cruise guests will continue to be welcomed by a dedicated meet and greet team of eight Port Authority staff, offering visitor information services, guidance, local insight, and a smooth arrival experience.
