Friends and colleagues gathered recently at Albert Building to mark the retirement of Douglas Garrick, who joined the Authority as a Port Controller in November 2008.

Dougie has served with the Authority during a period of significant change in harbour infrastructure where creation of almost 900 metres of deep water quays has provided new berthing options. In 2016, a new Vessel Monitoring System was introduced in Port Control and an upgrade of the harbour management software is now underway.

Commenting on Dougie’s service, Chief Executive Sandra Laurenson, said “Dougie has been a valued member of staff, contributing much to the smooth running of port operations. As one of the Port Control team working shifts covering 24-hours every day, his friendly voice has been the first point of contact for vessels using the harbour. We wish him all the very best for his retirement”.
