All of us at Lerwick Harbour were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, so long at the heart of the nation.
There are still memories of her visits at Lerwick, including in 1960 to unveil a plaque commemorating new harbour works including the development of a new fish market at the port – the first visit to the islands by a reigning monarch since a Norwegian king 700 years before. The Royal Yacht Britannia was one of the first vessels to berth at Morrison Dock when Her Majesty returned with Prince Philip in 1981, on a visit to open the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal.
The Board and staff of the Port Authority send their sincere condolences to the Royal Family at this time of deeply-felt loss.
