Ninian Northern jacket successfully loaded in at Dales Voe

The world’s largest offshore construction vessel, Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit, successfully completed delivery of the 8,500 tonne Ninian Northern platform jacket for decommissioning at Dales Voe, Shetland.

Lerwick Port Authority Chief Executive, Captain Calum Grains, “The second successful visit by Pioneering Spirit highlights another example of the deep-water harbour’s capacity and facilities to handle large vessels and major projects for energy industries and points the way to future operations.”

On arrival from the North Sea, Pioneering Spirit went directly to the Port Authority’s Dales Voe Base – the first time she has operated at quayside in a UK port – to lift steel structures onto a barge for removal following their use on her first visit to deliver the Ninian Northern topside in 2020.

The huge 382-metres-long and 124-metres wide vessel then manoeuvred mid-voe to transfer the 83-metre-high jacket via the Allseas barge, Iron Lady, to the Base where it was loaded-in to a heavy-duty pad in a complex operation.

The jacket is being decommissioned by international partnership, Veolia/Peterson, which also processed the topside.

Before sailing from Lerwick, Pioneering Spirit mobilised in the voe for her next project.
