The Duke of Cambridge has presented Sandra Laurenson, former Chief Executive of Lerwick Port Authority, with her OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) at an investiture at Buckingham Palace.

The award was made in the Queen's New Year's Honours’ List in recognition of Sandra’s services to the UK ports industry and the Scottish economy.

Miss Laurenson commented: "My involvement with the ports industry in Shetland and elsewhere was very much a team effort and the award is recognition of the sector's vital contribution.

“It was a wonderful event and a real pleasure to receive the honour from The Duke of Cambridge. My family and I were all delighted to visit Buckingham Palace and enjoy the occasion. The highlight was meeting and having a short conversation with The Duke, a special moment in a day of memories to treasure.”

Ms Laurenson retired in November, 2018, having served almost 44 years with the Authority and the predecessor Harbour Trust, the final 11 years as Chief Executive.
