Lerwick Port Authority marked 75 calls of the magnificent tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl to Lerwick with a presentation onboard during a call at the end of the 2011 season.

Lerwick Port Authority’s Chairman Harry Jamieson is pictured with Captain Jarle Flateboe and guests at the celebration. The visit by the Statsraad Lehmkuhl for the Tall Ships Race in July was actually the 75th visit in the modern era, she has called every year since 1988.

The ship has been operated by a Foundation since 1978 but she did also visit Lerwick in earlier years – archive records note visits in 1948, 1950 and 1967. A canvas print with a montage of photographs of the ship at Lerwick was presented. The older photographs from Shetland Museum and Archives show the timelessness of the ship and Lerwick’s town centre waterfront.

The Port Authority looks forward to welcoming the ship to Lerwick in the years ahead – in particular during the Statsraad Lehmkuhl centenary year of 2014, which is the same year that her home port of Bergen will again host the Tall Ships Races.
