Time to Talk Day

2nd February

Lerwick Port Authority is participating in a nationwide campaign to promote conversations about mental health on Time to Talk Day, Thursday, 5 February, encouraging people to talk more openly and honestly about mental health for a day.

Sustaining mental health is part of all of our daily lives, and any of us could go through a period where we struggle, but many of us are too afraid to talk about it. Starting a conversation about mental health might seem daunting, but a small gesture such as sending a text, checking in on a friend, inviting someone for a walk-and-talk, or sharing something on social media can make a big difference.

The 2026 campaign, led by Mind (with partners including Rethink Mental Illness, See Me, SAMH and others), invites everyone to “brave the big talk”, starting conversations about experiences and feelings that might still feel unspoken to many of us.

This year, the campaign aims to support communities up and down the country to have more mental health conversations than ever before.

Since its launch in 2014, Time to Talk Day has sparked millions of conversations in schools, homes, workplaces, in the media and online, and attracted support from celebrities such as Frankie Bridge, Fearne Cotton, Beverley Callard, Alastair Campbell, and Ruby Wax OBE.
