With support for the development of the Rosebank oil and gas field underway at Lerwick Harbour, representatives of the companies involved met with Lerwick Port Authority during a visit to Shetland.
The update on the UK’s largest undeveloped discovery was attended by partners Equinor and Ithaca Energy, along with main contractor TechnipFMC and the Port Authority team. Delegates also met with local contractors.
“Supporting the first phase development of Rosebank means more activity at the harbour and more work for the Shetland supply chain, with the prospect of a long-term relationship with the field,” said Port Authority Chief Executive, Captain Calum Grains.
“In the current era of decommissioning and transition, Rosebank is a significant reminder that we still service projects from the outset, as the port has done over six decades.”
Equinor’s head of UK offshore activities, Arne Gurtner, stated that Lerwick is “strategically positioned” for the development.
The location means savings in sailing times, fuel and emissions, and minimising vessel turnaround time during mobilisation of equipment.
With available facilities including extensive quaysides and laydown, the port’s role includes delivery, storage and transhipment of materials.
Output via the Floating Production and Storage Vessel, Petrojarl Rosebank, is due to begin in 2026.
