Lerwick Harbour’s continuing role supporting the development of SSE Renewables’ Viking windfarm onshore Shetland has entered its latest phase with the first shipment of turbine components.

The cargo vessel BBC Ruby berthed at the port’s Greenhead Base to unload her consignment of nacelles, drive trains and hubs for storage before delivery to the 103-turbine/442.9MW project.

Lerwick Port Authority Chief Executive, Captain Calum Grains, said: “This milestone in the development of the windfarm is another example of our support for the renewable energy sector which the port is perfectly positioned to service, both onshore and offshore.”

Onshore wind turbine components delivered to Lerwick for Shetland's Viking Energy Windfarm.
